Deeds, mortgages, bonds, bills, accounts, legal papers, and letters of William Howe, Epenetus Howe, John Howe, Ann E. Howe, Laura J. Mead, Mary Mead, George Mead, and Eliza Keeler. Many of the letters were written to Laura J. Mead, 1841-1871, and concern social life, family news, school experiences, deaths, and assistance to a Danbury family who lost everything in a fire. Other correspondence subjects include genealogy, life in Michigan (1837), and business matters. Also of note are four letters from John Howe to his brother Epenetus Howe, 1833-1834, concerning a business trip to London where John purchased zoo animals and shipped them to New York; estate papers of William H. Ireland Howe, 1914-1943, and of Jeremiah Smith, 1924-1937; and a scrapbook of clippings and programs on the theater kept by Laura Howe Nelson, 1899-1907.
